The 2006 Competitions
We attended both the Hartford Regional and the New York City Regional. During the early stages of our competition, we suffered a major setback when one of the treads on our robot snapped on a tensioner while the robot was on the field. However, we brilliantly compensated for this fatal error by ordering omni-wheels to give us stability and maneuverability comparable to the tread drive system. Because of our new six wheel drive, the programming of the robot had to be adjusted, and during autonomous mode we aimed for the corner goals instead of the high ones. In New York City, Joshua pulled us up the rankings, and we were selected by the British Team, Systemetric (759), to join their alliance. Together with Team 421, we advanced to the finals!
Awards
In addition to our silver medals, Team 694 won the following awards at the New York City Regional, setting a team record for total trophies taken home:
Creativity Award: Team 694 was awarded this for Joshua's innovative spiral. Because of this award, we were qualified to submit a 25-page entry complete with diagrams, photos, and written documentation of the creation of Joshua which is eligible for Rockport Publishing''s 2007 book FIRST Robotics, Behind the Design.
Best Website Award: After 5 successful years, our team needed a new website. So, in the fall, a group of team members got together to redesign the website in order to better organize our resources and clarify our goals. In the end, our team produced a website with a calendar, team history, a photo gallery, and a private section only for team members. These new changes earned us the 2006 NYC website award, and also set a precedent for a new era of communication and resource sharing that has become an integral part of our team.
